What do Admission Counselors look for?

  1. A challenging high school curriculum.
Continuing to challenge yourself with Advanced Placement classes or Honors sections.

  2. Grades
Evidence of strong grades throughout your high school career. Slightly lower grades are OK in Advanced Placement or Honors classes.

  3. SAT or ACT scores
Test scores should be consistent with your grades

  4. Activities, Leadership and Initiative
A long-term commitment to activities that demonstrate initiative and leadership are what is important.

  5. Community Service
A steady commitment to a public service organization is more valuable than a short-time volunteer position.

  6. Part-time Jobs or Internships
Job experience and or internships help demonstrate your work ethic and maturity.

  7. Essays
The essay demonstrates your writing ability and tells the reader something about you that is not evident on your admission application.

  8. Letters of recommendation
Request letters of recommendation from teachers who know you and the quality of your work.

  9. Recommendations from Other Adults
Limit these recommendations to supervisors or coaches.

  10. Special Activities
Honors, awards or other activities that demonstrate your uniqueness.
